Journey
of the.... Objective:
Most kids these days have grown up in a world where items are so far removed from
their origins, that they do not see or understand the way they connect to the
Earth. This activity will allow students to stop and think about what a certain
item is made from and what raw materials and natural resources were used to make
it. Materials: Crayons, large white construction paper or plain newsprint
Activity: Ask students to pick an item that's important to them. Where
does the item comes from? Ask that they draw a flow chart which will follow an
item back through to the natural resources it came from. The chart should begin
with a picture of the item and end with a picture of the Earth. When everyone
is finished, they can share their charts. It will be plain to see that anything
and everything was at one time part of the Earth. Follow-up: Its not
hard to get natural resources out of the Earth but once they have been manufactured
into something else, it's not always easy to go back. Make the point that we seriously
need to recycle and reuse. |

Journal Topic I want to play in the World Game I want to
make it better than its ever been before I want to play in the World Game
I want to make sure everybody knows the score About using less, doing so much
more John
Denver had the ability to express what he believed in through his song lyrics,
as many song writers do. In this song, he refers to a "World Game."
People like Tracy Fisher of The Center for a New American Dream do the work they
do because they believe they can make a difference in our world. In both cases,
these people are teaching what they believe to be positive change. How will you
create positive change around you and inspire others to do the same for the health
and sustainability of our planet? |

than its ever been before I want to play in the World Game I want to make
sure everybody knows the score About using less, doing so much more
Everywhere Im going I see trouble Everywhere Im looking I see
all kinds of pain Maybe we can get back on the double Maybe we can turn
around and make it all change They say its you against your neighbor If
it gets right down to it, you against your friend I swear that this is not
the answer As far as I can see it is the way it all ends I want to
play in the World Game I want to make it better than its ever been before
I want to play in the World Game I want to make sure everybody knows the score
About using less and doing so much more Hey man, you know me I dont
worry Hey man, you know me I am never afraid Only one thing can make me
sorry Something to say and then it never gets said What kind of man turns
on his brother What kind of man would turn his back on a friend Who has
the right to say its over Who has the right to see how far it can bend
I want to play in the World Game I want to make it better than its ever
been before I want to play in the World Game I want to make sure everybody
knows the score About using less, doing so much more Yaweh Yaweh Yaweh
Jah Yaweh Yaweh Yaweh Jah Yaweh Yaweh Yaweh Jah Yaweh Yaweh Yaweh
Jah You and me you and me You and me you and me I and I - I and I
I and I - I and I I want to play in the World Game I want to make
it better than its ever been before I want to play in the World Game I
want to make sure everybody knows the score About using less, doing so much
