We are an environmental and educational non profit making organisation and our mission is to inspire individuals in their local areas to make responsible choices and take direct personal actions to achieve a peaceful and environmentally sustainable future. We are one of twelve Connections across the World.
Windstar Connections meet, network, and carry out projects and forums of an action-oriented, educational nature. Fundamental goals include raising environmental awareness around the world and developing leadership potential in all people, so that we can be more involved informed, responsible citizens.
Goals
The goals of the Windstar UK Connection are simply to...
- encourage people to make informed and responsible choices about the world we all share
- inspire children and adults to recognise how they interact and contribute to the world around them
- provide environmental education in our local communities
- bring together like minded individuals and organisations to work together to achieve common goals and to help create a better world
- minimise our carbon footprint through carbon mitigation
The Windstar Foundation was founded in 1976 by singer/songwriter and environmentalist John Denver, along with Aikido Master Tom Crum. Windstar is a non-profit environmental education organisation which promotes a holistic approach to addressing environmental concerns. Windstar is the recognition that each one of us is part of, and responsible for, the quality of life on planet Earth; and that which affects any one of us, affects us all.
John Denver Best known as an entertainer, John Denver was much more. His co-founding of the Windstar Foundation is testimony to his dedication to the Earth and those who inhabit it. John's vision for a place where his friends could gather to reach out to nature and each other became a reality in 1976. Before his death, he actively participated in creating the Windstar Land Conservancy, further assuring his dream of protecting the Windstar Land in perpetuity.
Tom Crum Tom is a visionary with his feet firmly planted on the ground. Along with his good friend John Denver, Tom Co-founded the Windstar Foundation and served as its Executive Director for the first critical years from 1978-1984. Tom brought to Windstar experience as a teacher, community leader, and Aikido master. In Aikido and in life, Tom teaches that conflict does not have to equal contest.
