Windstar EARTHcamp

EARTHcamp was designed to inspire children to care for our World by: EARTHcamp

  • Presenting nature in an active, creative and hands-on-manner
  • Highlighting the necessity for biodiversity
  • Offering an integrated curriculum of science, games, visual arts, theatre arts and music.

Windstar’s EARTHcamp began in 2000 as an environmentally based summer day camp for children in the Roaring Fork Valley of Snowmass, Colorado. Since that time EARTHcamps have been present in cities across the world. They have been delivered in schools and to students, youth groups, boys and girls clubs. Young people and teachers alike love them!

With a legacy of more than three decades of education programs, events and interaction...and now with the electronic age of new media, Windstar inspires children and adults to gain knowledge, skills and experiences to take action with one another. To serve, preserve and honour a natural, sustainable world is our ultimate vision.

Mission

To educate, inspire and empower children and adults to create responsible choices through community and global action for a healthy and sustainable environment.

Goals

  • To promote an integrative approach to addressing environmental issues.
  • To create opportunities for individuals to gain knowledge, skills and experiences which enable them to demonstrate commitment through responsible decisions and actions.
  • To inspire children and adults to recognize their interconnectedness to the world around us.
  • To educate, inspire and empower individuals to actively commit to a healthy and sustainable future.

Philosophy

Windstar believes that personal, interpersonal, societal, and ecological environments are all integral components in the creation of a sustainable future for the planet.

EARTHcamp combines a correlated curriculum of science, games, visual arts, theatre arts and music with hands-on experiences in nature. Programmes can either be delivered in curriculum, as after school programmes or as a summer camp.

Science: We invite children to fall in love with nature through a HANDS-ON approach to science. We crawl, dig, sort and play our way into discovering the unique aspects of the natural world around us. These discoveries don’t come from lectures or textbooks…they come from within the child!

Creative Arts: EARTHcampers enjoy a variety of creative arts projects and experiences that coordinate with our science curriculum. Activities in music, art and theater arts are designed to encourage creativity and teach a deeper understanding of the natural world. They provide children with a way to express all they have learned and a means for envisioning a peaceful, healthy planet, which will in turn create a sense of responsibility toward it.

Games, Teamwork, Fun and More! EARTHcamp provides children with a variety of opportunities to discover their interconnectedness with the world around us and to understand that respect for self and respect for others lead to respect for our planet.
